This purchase will consist of one half-gallon of Primer, one gallon of Resin, one half-gallon clear coat, and one 12 lb. bag of Aggregate. This makes up a “Kit”. The only thing you will need to add to the “Kit” is one gallon of any color water based solid stain (not included). The coverage for a Kit will range from 120 to 200 sq. ft. This includes the primer coat, two product coats and clear coat*. The amount of coverage depends on the condition of the surface to be treated. This product can be applied to wood or concrete surfaces (as long as there is no vehicle traffic). Coverage on concrete pool decks or patios averages close to 200 sq. ft. Coverage on wood decks averages from 150 to 180 sq. ft. Coverage on boat docks averages from 80 to 150 sq. ft.
*Acryfin Clear UV Coating is a top coat sealer designed to add an additional hardener, help repel dirt and stains, and protect from UV rays. It is a clear liquid that is to be applied with a 3/16 to 1/4 inch nap roller. A very thin layer is desired. One quart will cover 150 square feet. Apply this last, after the final coat of Acryfin Coating has dried enough to walk on.
Example: if you have a deck that is 300 sq. ft. and the wood is in fair condition you will get approximately 150 sq. ft. of coverage and therefore you will need to order 2 “Kits”. Then you will want to purchase 2 gallons of Solid Stain (not included) as mentioned above.
Instructions
The following are the mixing and installation instructions:
Wood Application
Cool Weather (40º – 70º F)
Apply primer to clean, dry wood and let sit until no tackiness. (Usually 30 – 40 minutes)
In 5 gallon bucket mix 1 gallon of Sherwin Williams Super Deck Solid Stain (other brands or types of Acrylic paint can be used but we recommend this one) with 1 gallon of Acryfin® resin with a high speed paddle bit mixer. After a few seconds of mixing paint and resin, continue mixing and add aggregate at a moderately slow rate. After all aggregate has been added to paint and resin, continue mixing for 30 seconds or more until smooth.. Let sit for about 1 minute then continue mixing for another 30 seconds.
Make sure that all white particles are not clumping together. The mixture should be nice, thin and easy to apply.
Cut in using brushes or rollers. When ready to apply to main area, use ¾” nap roller covers( thicker nap roller covers should be used when dealing with really rough surfaces or boards that are spread further apart).
Make sure all voids and cracks are filled with roller or brush with the first coat. Apply first coat against the grain.
After the first coat is dry to touch, apply second coat using same method as first coat. Applt second coat with the grain. (coverage should be greater on the second coat).
Once second coat dries enough to walk on apply Acryfin clear coat sealer for added uv protection and stain resistance.
The full curing time will be 3-4 days. Keep furniture, pets, plants, etc off until completely cured.
Warm Weather (70º – 90º F)
Apply primer and mixing instructions as above. After first coat of Acryfin® has been applied, make sure the substrate is not too hot to apply second coat. This will occur if when applying the second coat you will see the product not bonding to the first coat in a smooth, easy manner. If this occurs, let the substrate cool (possibly overnight) and then apply second coat and clear coat sealer as outlined above. The curing time should be 4-7 days. Keep furniture, pets, plants, etc off until completely cured.
Concrete Application
Apply primer to clean, dry concrete area. Let sit overnight if possible.
Mix Acryfin® as described above, however you may use all or as little as 1/2 bag of aggregate depending on the course of existing surface. If it is a slick surface, first etch with muratic acid, pressure wash, let dry and apply primer and let sit overnight.
Apply the coating as above using 3/8” to ½” nap roller covers. Thin layers are what is desired to acheive thick coating to surface. Let first coat dry to the touch and then apply second coat and clear coat sealeras outlined above.
Curing time should be 3-4 days depending on heat and humidity. The hotter the weather the longer the curing time.
Vertical Areas
Apply primer as usual with sprayer, roller or brush. Let it dry to touch.
Mix 1 quart of resin to 1 gallon of paint and apply. This formula can be sprayed, rolled or brushed.
*Note: Without the aggregate in the mix, the coating will have a higher sheen than the flat surfaces. It may also remain very tacky for several days or even weeks in very hot and humid conditions.
